What would the relative accuracy of the best lies be? If the CBO is given false and misleading numbers, it stands to reason that 4 could actually equal 7?

The problems is, you missed the comment the CBO made in regard to all their effort and every calculation they have made is subject to "IF" medicare reform/cuts work. "IF" cutting billions from medicare and adding 30 million more on it's free ride list works..the numbers are all subject this outrages attack on our elderly and disabled and if this inhumane act works in cutting costs. I hate to inform you but Medicare isn't working now. It does not meet the needs of those that are on it NOW..How can this hatchet style health care scheme ever cause anything but trouble?

Yes Peter Buxbaum, the costs DO increase over time, but so do the savings. See that's how budgets work. You take the savings (or increased revenue) and subtract the costs. You don't just look at the costs. You may want to do some research on basic addition. There are some great wikipedia articles on this subject.

The CBO actually forecasts massive deficit reductions in the second ten years (in excess of 600 million even with the medicare corrections).

You of course only reported the costs because you are attempting to deceive your readers. Why did you not let people know that the CBO forecasts deficit reductions of 600 million to over 1 trillion in the second decade?

Regarding the CBO, Republicans were more than happy to quote the 1.6 trillion dollar bill that first came out of the house (that bill sucked and was an easy target). Now that the CBO is showing better numbers Republicans have to say the CBO is wrong. Otherwise the democrats look more fiscally conservative than the republicans. Disaster.

Republicans haven't had a president that reduced the deficit since Nixon.

There is a reason for the use of the word estimate which means best guess. Anyone can only guess at what the eventuality will be, given all available information and like all estimates the final results will vary from the best guesses. This does not diminish the relative accuracy of the best guesses.

CBO has always been a professional joke. It is not free from political pressure - not at all. I would guess that CBO figures are 97 percent wrong always. The best research offices like these are in California - see the Chief Legislative Analyst Offices in Los Angeles for the City Council (where I got my feet wet) and of course the California legislature. Both are pure gold, even with the unreal political power they must endure - just like from Congress - and of course the puppeteers that control them! - Great story Bux - but way too fair.
