The insult was also not directed at you, if we stipulate that you voted against Obama for his politics. So, by your own logic, you also should find nothing offensive in what Reid said.

What I find offensive about Mr. Reid’s choice of words isn’t the all too convenient label of racial bias, it’s the bias against thoughtful Americans who chose not to vote for a presidential candidate they didn’t agree with. I didn’t vote for President Obama and don’t see that changing in the foreseeable future. I didn’t (and don’t) agree with his policies, pure and simple. What I get from Mr. Reid’s comment is that my vote wasn’t based on the content of the man’s character, but on his wide-brush world view that my decision was based on race. Of course the comment didn’t offend the President. The insult wasn’t directed at him.

His senate seat is one (very real) concern. But fairness is another. Reid’s record shows him not to be a racist, so far as the legislation he has voted for is concerned. That’s what counts most.

Clinton was floating his opinion (with which I heartily disagree, btw) of where Obama deserved to be; he was not acknowledging where Obama actually was; i.e. about to snatch from Hillary something that she (in his opinion, and fervent desire) deserved.

No, not really.

Obama was a Senator, don’t you know? That’s already above the level of “law clerk,” and surpasses a political “lightweight” by a considerable margin.

Clinton meant that Obama would have been a serving them coffee. That’s why he said Obama would have been “serving us coffee.”

If Clinton meant Obama would be a law clerk or some such, he would say something else indicating such. Don’t stretch so hard.

I’ve got no use for Strom Thurmond, but I do see a double standard in all of this. The story has already reached the saturation point and nothing much more will come of this. However, it will be extremely interesting to see how things go the next time a Republican lets something stupid fall out of their mouths.

Older people grew up in a different time and so sometimes say things that reflect that time and experience. It is regrettable but it is not something many people – Democrat or Republican – of Mr Reid’s age have not thought or said privately. That said, Mr Reid is aging and somewhat out of touch with the modern world – much the same as John McCain and Mitch McConnel are. I think everyone sees that but him.

No senator retires gracefully. Just look at Robert Byrd who will hold on until they have to carry him out on a stretcher. Power is a tough thing to retire from.

Never been a fan of Ferraro, but I agree that she took one in the back coming from the Clinton campaign.

Just further proof that none of these people are grounded in any type of moral principles. They make their judgements based upon materialistic gains. At this particular time, Reid is seen as a valuable player in the socialistic take over of our country. So, he is automatically cut some slack.

It is great, isn’t it? A very targeted, focused, news experience, unlike it’s competition, which just rants all over the place.

As for Reid, for Democrats to do anything about him would require integrity, which they don’t have, and for them to abandon hypocrisy, which is core to their being. So I’m not holding my breath.

I find it telling that the Democrats (aides and bloggers) who were quoted in the article were concerned about Senator Reid’s re-election or the holding of the seat for Democrats, but virtually ignored how offensive his remarks were.

I haven’t seen the better and most recent comparison made, which is Reid’s comments to those of Geraldine Ferraro’s during the 2008 campaign. As a political adviser to Clinton’s campaign, she said that despite Obama’s inexperience, the only reason he was winning primaries was because he was black. Again – considered by many to be the truth, but she was made to resign from the campaign. I thought it was extremely unfair at the time – certainly she had a record of supporting “social justice” as well? But backing the “wrong” candidate…

Joedoe, the judgment Reid made was correct.

It IS easier for lighter-skinned blacks to be elected. It’s one of many superficial, idiotic factors that are “important”, like height and a full head of hair.

The use of the word “negro” was unfortunate, but certainly expected from someone in their 70s who grew up using the word when it was not deemed offensive.

I do agree that he’s past his prime and should be put out to pasture, but I think his constituents should decide that.
