The chance to secure crucial information about al-Qaeda operations in Yemen was lost because the Obama administration decided to charge and prosecute Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as an ordinary criminal, critics say. He is said to have reduced his co-operation with FBI interrogators on the advice of his government-appointed defence counsel.

The potential significance became chillingly clear this weekend when it was reported that shortly after his detention, he boasted that 20 more young Muslim men were being prepared for similar murderous missions in the Yemen.

Boasting something after you’ve been arrested is not the same as knowing what the heck you are talking about. And like this guy would even know this. I’m raising the bulls&*t flat on this one.

There are several ways to fight terrorism. You can use the military or intelligence with special forces or fight it in the courts or combinations thereof. Whichever way(s) is chosen, do we really want Eric Holder to be the commander in chief of our efforts to fight terror?

Let’s see, Would you believe what he says if he was put into the military system with no rights, where he might get beaten or abused, or would you believe what he says in response to a legal plea deal, where his information has to be verified and actionable.

In other words, how do you know his “singing like a canary” is not BS ? Much better chance to get good information in the system, where he has some rights, and some known consequences.

I should think expediency has to factor in here. A plea agreement could be 3 years down the road.
