April 19, 2007 , Senate Majority leader Harry Reid told President Bush that the war in Iraq “is lost.” January 11, 2010, President Obama proclaims that Harry Reid “has always been on the right side of history.” Really???

Trent Lott had said the country would have been better off if Strom Thurmond had been successful in his racist campaign for the White House. There can be no parsing of words here – it was clear what Trent Lott said and what he meant.

This is anon-story given too much attention by the right wing attack machine. The GOP has had dozens of out and out racist attacks in recent years, and Harry Reid says something that is not at all racist, and they go nuts.

Racism has to do with saying something deliberately hurtful and demeaning. Harry Reid’s comment was neither. It was a statement of fact, however that may be interpreted.

If Trent Lott had been a Republican the spin would have been all about how he made a bad choice in wording. Just like old Byrd gets a pass on all the horrendous things he has said and done over the past century.

Does “Barack The Magic Negro” ring a bell? Played on the Rush Limbaugh show?

Don Imus gets axed, yet Limbaugh is the voice of the Republican party.

As far as I’m concerned, the term “negro” isn’t racist as long as there’s a “United Negro College Fund.” The word means “black” after all. I don’t get it.

You might want to rethink your comment. Reid’s comment, which was technically correct but poorly stated, and Lott’s comment stating our country would have been better off with a segregationist president are worlds apart. “Typical double-standard of the left” labels a diverse group of people as hypocritical when it seems to apply to only a small portion of the left. It’s like saying no one on the right cares about the poor. Neither statement makes any sense.

I saw a quote once and do not remember who to attribute it to, but it was something to the affect of:

“Ignorance can be cured with education. The only cure for stupidity is death”

Harry Reid can surely not plead ignorance to how improper the use of the word negro is. In this case, as in Lott’s, it will most likely be the death of his political career. I know Nevada regrets having to claim ownership of him.

With forty five year of experience in business my concern is whether this was a public comment or a leak of a private conversation. I have been told it was the latter.

If so, those who revealed it are at fault. What Reid said about Obama’s skin color and accent are absolutely correct. They would be better off unspoken, but as positive points on Obama’s electability made to an uncertain potential white supporter they are on target. Anyone who has been in an important strategy session knows that words are not parsed for PR purposes. The key question here is whether it is a fact?

As for comparing it with what Trent Lott said about Strom Thurmond, that was pure racist support of an avowed segregationist. Reid’s record and support for Obama from the outset is proof of where his heart is.

Gridlock is good. It’s what made Clinton look like a genius. When Washington is locked up, they can’t spend money. I think if you look at the 90′s you will see that the reason the economy was booming was partially due to the lack of activity in Washington. Bring on Gridlock.

I think Obama can win another 4 years if he loses the House and Senate. Worked for Clinton.

“Racism” is the biggest tool in the Democrats belt. Too bad that they have overused the term into oblivion. Harry Reid is having an “African Americans for Harry Reid” rally. Why can’t he just have an “Americans for Harry Reid” rally? (Besides the fact that few would show up.) What would happen if Sarah Palin held a “White Americans for Palin” rally? Do you think there would be some kind of an uproar?
