Season 9 just premiered, but tonight we’re taking you back to Season 5, when Ayla Brown, the daughter of Massachusetts States Senator and definitely-maybe competitive candidate for Senate Scott Brown, appeared on AI. Though she was only 17 at the time, Brown, who said “her parents” were her “American idols,” managed to impress the judges and advance to the Top 16.
On the top 20 girl’s night, Brown sang “I Want You To Need Me” by Celine Deon. Her dad, Scott Brown, now hopes New Yorkers feel like they need him with the same sense of urgency. (See what we did there?)

Despite the tough beat, Ayla recently praised acerbic judge Simon Cowell, who’s just announced he’ll be leaving the show after this season.
“The ratings will most likely go down. I think in the past three or so years they’ve been trying to get ratings up,” Ayla said to the Boston Herald. “Especially with Simon leaving now after this year, it’s probably going to hurt the show dramatically.”
