“Military Times poll in December 2008 found that 58 percent of U.S. troops do not want gays to serve openly in the armed forces. Ten percent of respondents said they would leave the armed forces if the ban were lifted and 14 percent said they would consider doing so. Polls of soldiers in the United Kingdom similarly found that as many as two-thirds of soldiers said they would consider leaving the service if gays were allowed in, but the British military reported that very few soldiers actually chose to depart when the ban was lifted in 2000.”

This is simple. There are codes of conduct. You follow them or face the
consequences. You enforce the code. Gay, str8, or Bi, you follow the code of conduct or you are out.
All you need is the maturity to let fellow servicemembers be who they are, privately and with no interference with your tasks and responsibilities.

The 2008 Military Times “poll” was not a poll. It was a voluntary, online survey and has about as much statistical value as American Idol.

It’s complicated because some people need to feel Superior and they do it with institutional religion by making other groups lesser people. The gays are a favourite and easy target by these bigots. I love all the false arguments about how bad things will happen if you let gays admit they are gay. Just look at other military that have all ready allowed gays to be open and honest about who they are and you wont find these mythical problems. But those facts are hard for them to acknowledge since it takes away the rationalizations they use to justify their bigotry.

Everybody has taken a shower with a homosexual whether they knew it at the time, or not. And plenty of women in the military have been assaulted or raped by servicemen. You just punish bad behavior, without regard to sexual orientation. What’s so complicated about that?

I imagine a lot of servicemen – maybe even a majority – thought it was a disaster when Truman ordered racial integration. It’s up to the President and the Congress to do what’s right, not to take instructions from pollsters.

I agree. I want an explanation on how quarters will be provided. If men and women are separated in barracks, do they plan to allow the gay men to house with the straight women and the straight men with the lesbians? You cannot have quarters just for gays and lesbians unless you allow men and women to share quarters which is not acceptable. I think it is extremely complicated. Personally,I DON’T GIVE A RATS ASS about a persons sexual orientation, but I did serve in the military and shared a room with a lesbian and having her watch me change clothes and observe me while showering made me very uncomfortable. Would it have been more comfortable with a gay man in the room? Don’t know, but it is not simple. Of course, with the current administration, he will make another mess of things without fully thinking through the ramifications..

If you have men and women housed together…one may assume an accidentally encounter of an inappropriate sexual activity may be witnessed by an innocent by stander…If that same sexual activity is homosexual some body is going to get hospitalized…

What we have are gays playing the victim whereas in reality gays often play the “rainbow card” to avoid honoring their contract. According to a 2005 GAO report discharged under DADT between 94 & 03 were 19% while in basic. Another 11% while in job training and a whopping 59% within one year of job training.

One of the activist poster boyz Jeff Key’s bio even admits to playing the Rainbow Card to gain his discharge from the USMC.

The current policy of allowing gays to test the waters and then giving them a nonpunitive pass home if the military is not to their liking is a waste of tax dollars.

DOD needs to end all admin discharges under DADT. No more discharging members simply for outing themselves. Thsoe who want to take it a step further and engage in activity ion prohibited areas such as enlisted quarters should be prosecuted under the UCMJ.
