Carly Fiorina: Vote for opponent is vote for cyborg sheep [video]

According to Time Magazine, the best way to view California Senate Candidate Carly Fiorina’s new primary campaign ad–which features everything from bizarrely Morgan Freeman-esque narration to pigs and sheep to psychedelic imagery — “is by pressing play on your cassette tape of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon just as you click play on YouTube.” Are those cyborg demon sheep? We’re pretty sure they’re cyborg demon sheep.

The lengthy attack ad goes after former California Congressman Tom Campbell, who currently sits at the top of the pack in the Republican primary race for the seat currently held by Democrat Barbara Boxer.

The attack ad, viral as it is, is certainly more successful than what Democrats mustered earlier this month. The California Democratic Party debuted Carlyfailorina.com (see what they did there?), a site dedicated to bashing the Republican candidate. Sounds great, but the site also claims Failorina is running for governor, not senator. Oops. (The mistake was still not fixed at the time this video was posted.)

“Carly Fiorina likes to say that she’ll run things the way she ran her business,” the Web site begins. “And we believe her. As California’s next Senator she would undoubtedly run government the way she ran one of our state’s biggest companies: right into the ground.”

The zinger refers to Fiorina’s time at Hewlett-Packard.  When she began as CEO at the company in July 1999, HP’s stock sat at $52 per share. When she left (or, more accurately, was forced to leave) in February 2005, it had tumbled to $21 per share, a stunning 60% loss in value.

Fiorina, for her part, runs FCINO.com, where this video was posted. The site, whose name is an acronym for ‘Fiscal Conservative In Name Only,’ accuses so-called ‘Taxin’ Tom’ primarily of raising taxes, borrowing money, and authoring bloated budgets.

The rhetoric hasn’t yet translated to an advantage at the polls for Fiorina ahead of the June 8 primary. A poll from the Public Policy Institute of California last week found that Fiorina trails Campbell 27%-16% among likely voters ahead of the June 8 primary.

But, crazy attack ads notwithstanding, it doesn’t seem that Fiorina will let that faze her. After her breast cancer diagnosis, Fiorina quipped: “I have to say that after chemotherapy, Barbara Boxer just isn’t that scary anymore.”

But cyborg sheep? Definitely still scary.
