Their cafeteria’s Chef (who is black) was proud to be able to offer a menu for B.H. month. What did NBC expect? Lasagna?

Likewise joedoe. A mutt raised on this type of food, and loved every bite. I felt sorry for the commissary worker who put this menu together. I hope she will not lose her job over people who claim their pride was hurt. It seems to me culture, even culture of your ancestors, should not be thrown away. Don’t let people talk away your history and say you can only be in this type of box in order to be right. I say eat some Southern cooking with gusto while thanking God how far our country and people have come. That menu does not represent oppression, but survival. It should be celebrated.

This disclosure raised hell with NBC’s special plans for next year’s MLK day, when they were arranging for Australioan-grown watermelons to be flown to Burbank for the especial luncheon to honor the good Doctor, since they would be out-of-season in the US.

Help! I need an official ruling from the PC Czar. Please rank the following offenses in descending order of offensiveness. NBC serves fried chicken in honor or Black History month, Reid says Obama is light skinned, Emanuel uses F-word on liberal base, Emanuel uses R-word on liberal base, Limbaugh reports Emanuel’s words, Obama insults pickup truck drivers, anti-Muslim hysteria runs rampant after Maj. Hasan attack (oh wait, that one didn’t happen.)

Because then you let someone else, whose may not be acting in good faith, to ascribe to you things you didn’t mean nor say.

You let them act as censors. And when you allow that, usually the counterarguments then turn ad hominem rather than being made on the merits. and that’s not right or fair. It cheapens the discussion and does not further understanding.

And the other point here is also that whatever signifiers you take away, ie, the insults you feel, are from you anyway, not the other person.

This search for ‘hidden meaning’ affords opportunities to ignore plain language. And that’s disingenuous, mendacious, pernicious, and outrageous. As Jackie Chiles would say. Unless that’s racist and offensive. In which case I will apologize while refusing to do so.
