Obama blasts Bush for ‘dereliction of duty,’ touts economic progress
Speaking at the Democratic National Committee winter meeting at the Capitol Hilton in snow-drenched Washington today, President Obama touted new figures from the Labor Department showing a 0.3 percent decrease in the unemployment rate and took a few shots at former President Bush.
Faced with mounting national opposition to his party’s platform, the president reminded voters the real reason the trillion-dollar stimulus package still hasn’t reduced unemployment to 8 percent as promised: Bush did it, and it’ll take a lot of time to undo it.
“The country cannot return to the “dereliction of duty that helped deliver this recession,” Obama said. He added that the previous administration’s role in the economic meltdown was the “real outrage.”
The statement comes as the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville remains in full swing, with former governor Sarah Palin set to speak tonight.
Reports CNN:
Obama worked to buck up his party members, urging them to get behind his agenda and continue efforts to develop remedies. The president listed accomplishments during his first year, citing almost $300 billion in tax relief, tax cuts for small businesses and individuals, a credit card bill of rights and foreign policy strides. He also said a health care overhaul is still on the table.
“Just in case there’s any confusion out there, let me be clear,” Obama said. “I am not going to walk away from health insurance reform.”

Obama was a US senator the last two years of the Bush admin, with a democratic majority in both the house and senate. When Obama blames the Bush admin for "dereliction of duty" he is also blaming himself and other democrats because Bush's "failed" policies couldn't have passed without the support of the Democratic congress.
Let me be clear. The real "outrage" is the out of control spending, the secret deals behind closed doors, the President that promised to refuse jobs to lobbyists has hired over 40, the transparency we were promised is more opaque than mud, the CSPAN hearings on health care were DOA and the promise to end "no contract" bids died last week when Obama admin gave a contract to a democratic supporter without first seeking bids. In other words, Obama brought the worst of Chicago thuggery politics to Washington without ever having any intention of following through on any promises made.
What president prompter never mentions is that employment hit record HIGH levels during President Bush’s administration, according to the Bureau of Labor Stats. As did wages, productivity, longevity, disposable income, personal spending and the stock market hit record high levels as well. Things only began to turn south when the business community became convinced that the next president was going to be an anti-American capitalist hating commu-fascist.
