Really I didn't know Maddow's stupid looking haircut is an open statement to the world that she is a lesbian. I guess it does go with that hairy upper lip she sports.

Hypomaniac, your last post summed up your argument the best. I absolutely agree that Tancredo should have chosen his words better. However, in my opinion, some truly ignorant people voted for Obama. They voted for him because they believed all of his lies during the campaign. They believed he was going to change Washington for the better. All he did was make it worse. And yes, I will say it...they voted for him because he was black. So maybe the racism is on them?

First, let me say that the reason I came to this site in the first place is precisely because of what folks like Olbermann and Maddow were saying about Scott Brown (who seems like a reasonable fellow with reasonable views), and the very sense of entitlement that liberal Democrats seemed to have for Ted Kennedy's old seat. Your criticism of both bloviators is accurate and called for.

However, they are mere commentators, and the Democratic party is no more liable for their comments as the Republicans are for, say, Pat Robertson's. If the Tea Partiers are to gain widespread traction, they will have to realize that rhetoric like (former Congressman & presidential candidate) Tom Gerard Tancredo's is going to alienate the very people they will need to get widespread political traction. Such people may well agree with the core fiscal conservatism of the movement, but not understand the need to link it it to social conservative views like the ones he has expressed. To simply call them names or seek to humiliate them is not likely to win them over.

Thanks, Mary Kay. You raise a legitimate question, so let me provide a legitimate answer. As Maddow said, "A civics literacy test" is exactly how blacks were kept from voting in the South before such tests were outlawed, and, while some might think such devices are needed again, even Tancredo himself has backed off this remark.

Secondly, “People who could not even spell the word vote, or say it in English" reads, to me, like code for recent (and, presumably, legal) immigrants, clearly implying that they should not be able to vote at all. The use of Obama's middle name seems designed to link him with such immigrants (along with, of course, a certain Iraqi-- why say it otherwise?).

Maddow definitely went too far with the KKK reference, but it should be no surprise that many people in the center, let alone the left, will be put off by such statements-- and they are the very ones the Tea Partiers and/or Republicans will need to reach in order to achieve widespread electoral success.

Someone should edit together a youtube video compilation of all the MSNBC hosts accusations of racism. I think youtube has a 10 minute time limit, so it may have to be done in installments.

I can't stand when people (especially those in the media) get lazy and throw around the racist label. Maddow, Olbermann, Beck etc...

HOWEVER, what in God's name was Tancredo blabbering about? Both him and Maddow look like fools in that video

I've been driven from Center-Left to Center-Right because it's harder to find a Liberal who'll be honest when it's difficult than to find a Code Pink member who'll shave her armpits.

Dear Daily Caller / Mr. Carlson:

Though you corrected the error in your reporting on this story that I pointed out yesterday, you apparently decided that you would use your moderated board to screen out criticism of the quality of your reporting. So much for "adding facts to the conversation." Too bad, I actually thought the idea of the site was a good one.

<strong>REPLY:</strong> Thanks. If you have any other suggestions, we read as many comments as we can, so go ahead and leave them.

Why are so many of you making mean-spirited anti-lesbian remarks? It seems to me that tends to prove that Rachel Maddow is essentially correct about the sort of people who support the Tea Party.

When Sarah Palin talks about "the real America" I think it's pretty clear she's talking about white people (not blacks) who go to church (not synagogue) and are straight (or, at least, are deeply closeted). That sounds to me much like the KKK. All that's missing is the white sheet, which Rachel thoughtfully provided in her little jab.

In the absence of any substantive, honest reporting MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow gutter report caters to a very small liberal audience. That type of opinion may have served them well during their smear liberal media bias agenda during the 2008 Campaign, but these comments demonstrates a total lack of capacity to muster any journalistic integrity. The American People already see right through them. A Public Policy Polling nationwide survey of 1,151 registered voters Jan. 18-19 found that 49 percent of Americans trusted Fox News, 10 percentage points more than any other network. Thirty-seven percent said they didn’t trust Fox, also the lowest level of distrust that any of the networks recorded. There was a strong partisan split among those who said they trusted Fox — with 74 percent of Republicans saying they trusted the network, while only 30 percent of Democrats said they did. CNN was the second-most-trusted network, getting the trust of 39 percent of those polled. Forty-one percent said they didn’t trust CNN. Each of the three major networks was trusted by less than 40 percent of those surveyed, with NBC ranking highest at 35 percent. Forty-four percent said they did not trust NBC, which was combined with its sister cable station MSNBC. Thirty-two percent of respondents said they trusted CBS, while 31 percent trusted ABC. Both CBS and ABC were not trusted by 46 percent of those polled. (SOURCE: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/32039.html )
