The Sixth Annual Puppy Bowl, a demented but adorable mix of sweet little puppies chasing and chomping at each other on a little fake football field and commercials, is the most fantastic alternative to the sturm and drang of the actual Super Bowl game. Who doesn’t love puppies? (If you raised your hand, well . . . I don’t know what to say to you!)
Providing a two-hour alternative to the testosterone-filled Big Game of the Football Season (whose big brawny players only play 16 regular games per season) is not an easy thing to do. Using a young silly comedian who is willing to wear a ref’s uniform, be comfortable with dog slobber and eat a Kit-Kat bar with the same amount of crispy timely perfection as the actors who do the same on the commercial, the Puppy Bowl attempts to mimic the specifics of a big arena game but, besides the puppies, they make a few additions that are really really clever.
