Fixed-rate mortgages fall; 30-year under 5 percent Mortgages

The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage slipped below 5% again this week, marking the third week in 2010 that it has been lower than that level, according to Freddie Mac’s weekly survey of conforming mortgage rates.

The mortgage averaged 4.97% for the week ending Feb. 11, down from 5.01% last week and 5.16% a year ago. Fifteen-year fixed-rate mortgages also fell, averaging 4.34% this week, down from 4.40% last week and 4.81% a year ago.
