He sang about small towns but might be considering a move to Washington, D.C. Grammy Award-winning rocker John Mellencamp may make a run for the Senate seat recently vacated by Democrat Evan Bayh.

Over 1,000 Facebook users have joined the group, Draft John Mellencamp for Senate, encouraging the Indiana native to run for office.

Mellencamp, a liberal Democrat, has never been one to shy away from expressing his political beliefs. During the 2008 presidential campaign Mellencamp asked John McCain to stop playing his music at campaign rallies.

No announcement has been made on whether or not the “Jack and Diane” singer will be heading to the nation’s capital. The Indiana Democratic party has until June 30th to choose Bayh’s replacement.
