Pelosi offers conflicting views of the Tea Party voter

Bookmark and Share

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to the airwaves on Sunday morning determined to imprint her view of the Tea Party movement on the morning viewers.  One could be forgiven for walking away slightly confused as Pelosi both praised and derided the voters comprising the phenomonom that recently swept Republican Sen. Scott Brown into office and changed the political landscape.

What she said:

… some of it is orchestrated [Tea Party protests] from the Republican headquarters. Some of it is hijacking the good intentions of lots of people who share some of our concerns that we have about the role of special interests and many Tea Partiers, not that I speak for them, share the view, whether it’s — and Democrats, Republicans and Independents share the view that the recent Supreme Court decision, which greatly empowers the special interests, is something that they oppose.

Many found Pelosi’s last claim, that Tea Partiers generally share a negative view of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, to be counter-intutive and not in sync with reality.

Conservative blogger Ed Morrisey at HotAir writes:

How many who have attended Tea Parties have heard anyone decrying theCitizens United v FEC decision?  No wonder Pelosi had to throw in the caveat that “I don’t speak for them.”  She also hasn’t listened to them, again not exactly a surprise.

Additionally, given the Tea Party’s hostility to the Democrat’s health-care reform initiative, which Pelosi herself has stridently campaigned for, it’s unlikely that her attempts at outreach will accomplish much, if anything.

Pelosi wouldn’t know what is good for this country even if it reached up and slapped her botox ridden face!!!!

Hello, Nancy ! Do you even know what TEA stand for? Taxed Enough Already, FYI. So unless you denounce/repeal all the taxes that you and the Dems are pushing down on the working people, I give your words ZERO credibility, this is pandering at its worst.

Pelosi sees the writing on the wall. Time for the Democrats to line up in the circular firing squad……again. I’m just wondering who’s lining up first, the House or Senate? Good-Bye…..LOL.

We’re preparing a story on the Tea Party – which we don’t like! – and will publish it shortly. In the meantime, your Readers might consider joining our new Centrists Group at Linked In and might like to look at our new blog for and about Centrists, The Rest of U.S.

Extremists have become so loud, they’re deafening. And because they shout in perfect sound bites, the media birddog their every rant, however irresponsible or outrageous.

But we believe the political tide’s about to turn with a vengeance. No matter their party affiliation or lack thereof, Americans are disgusted with those who harass to harass, obstruct to obstruct, tear down to tear down. Compromise, consensus, bridge-building, and respect for differing viewpoints have been the hallmarks of American life as long as there’s been an America. We’re certain they will be again.

Please read: The Rest of U.S. – Who We Are and What We Stand For

STFU…..YOU PEOPLE HAVE GOT US INTO THIS MESS! STARTING WITH FDR! The TEA Party is the ONLY voice of reason be they Republican or Democrat.

“But we believe the political tide’s about to turn with a vengeance.”
Like it did in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virgina? If you are looking for supporters look to Coakley, Corzine or Deeds, they need a job too.

Your “Blog” offers 0 specifics. What do you stand for? It’s real easy to try and take the high road by becoming a “peacemaker” as our government spends our futures into oblivion. You Ivy League Sophisticates have lost all sense of reality. You feel that the 20% of Americans who are like you are the MAJORITY – NEWS FLASH: You are not. By using words like vengeance just who are you trying to appeal to?

      • hurtzallot

WARNING….MoveOn.org….PLANT. Damn Ivy League Elitist! FOX Nation would be more of an appealing crowd for you and YOUR astro-turf “Centrist movement.” Maybe Evan Blayh could lead your crowd.

        • hurtzallot

…..wait just a second, wasn’t Evan Blayh a self identified Centrist who also voted along DEMOCRATIC Party lines? The carpet bombing has begun.
“But we believe the political tide’s about to turn with a vengeance.”
It has turned you fools. You call this political discourse? We call it the TEA Party made up of Commoners NOT Elitist with our voices to finally be heard one way or another.

          • scorpioman

            Did you get off?

          • hurtzallot

Not sure what’s that on your chin scorpioman?

    • brdsufferer

Let me get this straight…as a Tea Party attendee, the ideas that I believe in such as limited gov’t, lower taxes, accountability, ethical standards, etc… make me an extremist? So be it, then I am an extremist. Yet, I can’t understand the rationale. These ideas weren’t extreme 30, 50, 100 or 200 years ago. Why only now are they extreme?

And ma’am, what you consider centrist ideas, I consider leftist ideas. A “centrist” group? Question: If I were to join your group, must I have been pre-neutered and if not, will the “Rest of Us” reimburse me for the procedure?

    • hurtzallot

You in the Ivy Leagues are toast. Obama is a good organizer maybe you can get him on board come 2012.

Nice sound bite you got there.

I am not part of the Tea Party..but I do like what I am seeing of them for the most part…in that they don’t walk in lockstep with each other. They have one common goal and that is to return power to the people. It’s hard for some folks to understand the Tea Party because there is no leader in spite of those that wish to take credit like Ron Paul..LOL…There is a multitude of reason why these Americans feel America is heading in the wrong direction and how this administration has robbed it’s citizens of control and freedoms. They are made up of EVERY PARTY..If you listen you might disagree with a few but their will be just as many you do agree with. That’s America, we need to protect that about America if nothing else.

It is really refreshing to know that Pelosi has reformed and now is a lover of our Constitution, wants smaller government, is against the government taking over our healthcare, and is going to stop bailing out wall street! Pelosi, the Tea Party welcomes you!!!

  6. torispelling

Perhaps Speaker Pelosi reads more widely, more thoroughly, with far higher comprehension than Morrissey. [ http://www.acslaw.org/node/15330 ] “Gary Langer, director of polling at ABC News, noted that the survey also revealed that even some supporters of the Tea Party movement, which rails against the federal government, oppose the outcome in Citizens United.

“Even among people who agree at least somewhat with the Tea Party movement,” Langer wrote, “73 percent oppose the high court’s rejection of this particular law. Among the subset who agree strong with the Tea Party’s position on the issues – 14 percent of all adults – fewer but still most, 56 percent, oppose the high court in this case.”

    Duh!

    • thebigodoopedu2

torispelling I’m not sure what your agenda is, maybe your just misinformed or indoctrinated so bad that your beyond help…Your quoting a poll off of ABC and saying that represents Americas position on this matter?…Really..?….I’m sure ABC’s 12 viewers might look impressive but it hardly represents Americas views. They have a mostly left wing audience to begin with and are suffering in ratings as it is. Most Reasonable Americans seen how Obama cheated this election and one of the ways was his illegal methods of excepting campaign funds that some were documented from coming out of the United states as well as other sources that were later found to be unacceptable. Americans want fair elections in this country we certainly don’t want a repeat of this last fiasco where Acorn is out slum hoping and bribing homeless and mentally ill people with booze and cigarettes for a vote.
