The Daily Caller Cigar Review: Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill (Cuban)

When it comes to cigars bearing the famous Romeo y Julieta label, Americans are more familiar with the Dominican-made brand that’s produced by Altadis USA and widely available in cigar shops across the U.S. The authentic Cuban version is harder to come by because of the longstanding Cuban embargo.

If you get the opportunity to try a Cuban Romeo y Julieta, make it a Short Churchill. This robusto-sized smoke is one of the finest cigars currently in production on Castro’s communist isle. It boasts a toasty, balanced core of coffee, cream, leather, honey, and graham cracker. Strong cedar notes provide a flourishing finish.

Sadly it’s true that, these days, many Cuban cigars suffer from inconsistencies in burn, ash, and draw. While the Short Churchill is no exception, a bit of modest aging will make all the difference and can render this a most enjoyable smoke.
