Speaking Tuesday shortly after signing the comprehensive health-care reform bill into law, President Obama mocked comments made by RNC Chairman Michael Steele and House Minority Leader John Boehner that implied the bill would bring about the end of the world.
“I heard one of the Republican leaders say this was ‘going to be Armageddon,’” the president said to subdued laughter. “Well, two months from now, six months from now, we can check it out, look around, and we’ll see.”
Major provisions of the reform do not take effect until 2014, including the requirement that Americans purchase insurance or face a penalty.
