Can you imagine the federal government setting standards for how to do your job? Yeah, every job in which a person requires a federal or interstate license, from truck driving right up to the practice of medicine… and this didn’t start with Obama. Federal oversight is something the American people have been demanding since the tainted-meat scandals of the early 1900s.

Call it whatever you want, it is NOT a “death panel.” There are no panels, period.

Your doc doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or he’s intentionally lying to you. Private insurance companies running HMO’s dictate to doctors that they can’t even MENTION medical procedures which the HMO doesn’t want to pay for — even if they are the best alternative.

The new legislation doesn’t stop this kind of abuse, but it certainly doesn’t expand it, and Obama has nothing to do with it. It’s been going on since the creation of HMO’s back in the early 1980s.

So he’ll retire in two years and collect social security and take advantage of medicare. Oh and probably have more money in retirement funds that most of us could ever dream of. And he wants us to feel badly for him —why? Retire doc. You lost your desire to help your fellow man long ago.

The doctor said it’s too stressful to continue. But the stress of dealing with these things wouldn’t be HIS unless he’s managing them. Again, all it would have taken you would have been a simple reading of the words from this dermatologist INSTEAD of the kneejerk reaction you DID have.

We weren’t talking about how extra regulations might make for extra work, doofus, we were talking about how the new HCR was supposedly going to make life as a doctor more stressful for him, remember? Do you think that I can’t SEE what the beginnings of our debate was? I swear….

This doctor is either believing he’s going to get stressed out because the potential penalties if he messed up are increased (so DON’T do the prohibited behavior, and you won’t be punished), or because there’ll be increased oversight and paperwork (which should be done by some flunky, NOT the doctor).

His argument holds no weight. It’s bogus. It’s an invention. It’s created out of thin air and not related to the actual impact of the HCR bill!

Awesome, so the “do well” by this government’s accounting (which they’ll have to report, and may be penalized for) if they treat you cheaply, with the less costly and less effective treatment… or just give you pain pills and let you go.

And they’ll “do poorly” (and be penalized as well as economically worse off) if they actually treat patients.

You need a hip replacement, and it would let you walk again. But that costs too much, so have a wheelchair and some pain pills and get out of here… oh and don’t get me started on the costs of Chemo… just take a morphine drip and wait it out.

Oh, you wanted treated so you’d actually get better? Yeah, we can’t afford to do that here anymore.

You’re right, this is a great plan for health care; why didn’t we promote ignoring patients and avoiding treating people sooner?

I didn’t say I’d retire at age 46 or 47. Hardly. My student loan debt still exceeds $200,000. I will try to find a new career. Medicine is now often a thankless job. Not always, but more so than I found it ten years ago.

dolly, I read the article. Twice, now, just to make sure I didn’t miss a key point. My point is that the clinic is this doctor’s own small business. Therefore, if someone else tends to the details of billing; eg, denied claims, checking coding, etc., it is still the owner’s business to know what is going on. For ex., I may not know that my biller billed Mrs. B for $45, but I will know that my outstanding bills are x. Likewise, since it is my clinic, I may not have to deal with EVERY bit of extra documentation that is necessary, but I know that I will personally deal with some extra documentation (physicians are often obliged to be an integral part of, say, a request for additional diagnosis codes.) And I know that the sum of the extra work by my staff makes the entire clinic less efficient; hence, less profitable.

Is that it, dolly? Is it the profit you hate? And why are you so angry?
