I think killtruck’s point isn’t that he’s not responsible, it’s that they narced on him – for something he had the right to do, and for something that does not really affect most geico customers, for something more or less outside the sphere of geico business. I don’t know, kind of bugs me too. No one likes a tattletale.

I’m very sympathetic to the argument at the root, “I may not like what you have to say, but I’ll defend your right to say it.” If you read my other posts here you’ll see I’m also happy GEICO stood up for themselves and dumped this boisterous, offensive jag-weed. But still, killtruck has a point.

This was bothering me, my memory is not so great; Super Tuesday: Paul received 25 and 21% of the vote in Montana and North Dakota respectively. As for the primaries at large he received over 10% of the vote in races in Alaska, Kansas and Washington (others if you include states where he wasn’t running against at least a couple front runners.) This does not necessarily mean that “one in ten” Repulican voters who voted in primaries in those states voted for Paul. I just don’t know how each state runs it’s primaries.

In any case, I still think it’s an impressive showing for someone who’s running against the ostensible “Republican Mainstream” in their own primaries.

If by “you guys” you mean the DC posters, I really couldn’t say if there’s much consensus among us. If you mean American conservatives in general than I completely disagree with you. There is serious, contentious debate on a bunch of issues like prohibition and vice laws, war, and taxation. Contrast Ron Paul’s well known libertarian policy positions to that of say GWB and the majority of currently seated Republicans and you’ll see there’s a pretty big gulf between them.

This isn’t a tiny constituency either, not even within the GOP itself. The Super Tuesday results in 2008 definitely showed Paul trailing his neo-con adversaries; but in many states more than one in ten Republicans who showed up to vote voted for Paul. In Montana and North Dakota it was something like %20 to %25.

When more than one in ten of GOP primary voters are showing up to vote for a guy who advocates a complete reversal of Republican policy on prohibition and war – that says to me that there is quite a lot of diversity of opinion on the right.

Those on the far right may even find some common ground with our leftist counter parts. Maybe you should consider coming over to our side? It’s not so bad over here… we have baby carrots, and dip. And salt. I’ll keep a spot warm for you.

And yes, you’re right; it could cut both ways. They might get a little bump for firing this moron. In all honesty, even if they didn’t fire him I would still consider GEICO when I next compared policies. I still watch Tom Cruise movies, too. I assume that all actors are complete pinko, commie, left wing nutjobs so I’m not really shocked about Doulas’ nonsense. I was shocked about how stupid and un-funny and tactless he was though, but I guess he’s not a writer… just an actor.
