A bipartisan group of senators introduced legislation that aims to shine a little more light on similar congressional pet projects, commonly known as earmarks, and the proposal is receiving praise today from watchdog groups.

The bill would require the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House to create and post a searchable database of earmark data online. The database would include the name of the recipient, the amount of money requested for the project and the amount actually approved.
