Republicans optimistic on Hawaii election

Republicans believe they are on the cusp of winning a House special election in Hawaii Saturday, an outcome that would take some of the sting out of a decisive loss suffered in another House special election earlier in the week.

National Republican Congressional Committee Executive Director Guy Harrison met with a group of lobbyists, GOP activists, and top Hill staffers at the Capitol Hill Club on Friday and told them the committee was confident Republican Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou would prevail in the Hawaii race.

“They’re feeling pretty good about it,” remarked a Republican Capitol Hill aide present at the event, who noted though that Harrison appeared to not want to “get ahead” of himself.
