Thomas’s views unsettled W.H. press

After “offensive,” “repulsive” and “shocking,” the word used most to describe columnist Helen Thomas’ sensational remarks made late last month about the need for Jews to “get the hell out of Palestine” and return to Germany and Poland was, simply, “sad.”

“It is sad, unfortunate – and utterly disappointing,” former White House spokesman Dana Perino told POLITICO when a video of Thomas’ remarks emerged on RabbiLive.com

And the announcement Monday by Hearst Newspapers that Thomas, at age 89, was retiring as a result of the controversy elicited something similar: It was a sad ending to a legendary career.
