Stanley Cup Finals: Hawks hovering at cupacity

There is one trophy in sports worth having, and it's the one that has “ass man” engraved on it.

Along with everyone else affiliated with the 1945 Maple Leafs, assistant manager Frank Selke had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately for him and fortunately for us, his title was abbreviated to “ass man.”

Who knows what difficulties Blackhawks forward Dustin Byfuglien might present for an engraver?

The Hawks want their names carved onto the Cup along with Mr.Selke’s, and they’ll get their chance tonight in Game 6 against the Flyers.

It should be a gas, man.

The Cup will be waiting in all its tiered glory somewhere in the Wachovia Center. It will be waiting specifically for the Hawks, simply because they lead the series 3-2 and thus have the first real shot at the trophy. If they win Game 6, the players will take turns holding the 34½-pound Cup over their heads as they skate around the ice in celebration.

But right now, as the immensity of the task becomes bigger and bigger to the Hawks, the Cup seems to weigh a ton.
