Bob Etheridge is sorry he allowed those intrusive partisans to get him all riled up

Ben Smith at Politico has Etheridge’s attempt at an apology for going nuts:

I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.

Smith says that Etheridge “wisely doesn’t quibble.” He just called those kids intrusive and partisan for asking him a question on a public street, and referred to his own behavior as “a poor response.” That’s not quibbling?

And did Etheridge ever give back that kid’s phone?

P.S. “Get involved.”

P.P.S. How many of the same people who are demanding to know these kids’ identities have been throwing a fit over Arizona cops asking to see a driver’s license?

P.P.P.S. Dems cite Gawker and Media Matters in defense of Etheridge’s assault. And Ben Smith knows these kids are conservatives, because… well, he just does. Why else would they ask a Democrat if he supports Obama?

P.P.P.P.S.

P.P.P.P.P.S. Thanks to Dave Weigel for reminding us about the real victim.
