‘A plan is just a list of things that don’t happen’

That’s one of my favorite quotes from a movie full of great quotes, 2000’s The Way of the Gun. I offer it by way of condolences to the Obama administration in the wake of this report from CBS:

Most Americans do not believe President Obama has a clear plan to deal with the oil spill in the Gulf, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll…

Just 32 percent say Mr. Obama has a clear plan to deal with the oil leak, while 59 percent (including 64 percent of Gulf coast residents) say he does not.

The spill isn’t the only issue on which the president is seen as lacking a plan of action: Just 41 percent say Mr. Obama has a clear plan for developing new sources of energy, while 45 percent say he has no clear plan. And when it comes to creating jobs, just 34 percent say he has a clear plan; 54 percent say he does not.

This isn’t entirely fair. Blaming everybody other than yourself is a plan. Using every opportunity to grab more power for yourself and your cronies is a plan. Saying whatever you need to say to get through the next 5 minutes is a plan.

Oh, do they mean a plan to solve other people’s problems? Well then, no. But you guys should’ve thought about that before you voted for him, huh? It’s not his fault you’re so gullible.

In the meantime, the “Party of No” is now the “Party of How About We Do Something About This Problem Already.”

*You should watch at least the first 5 minutes of this movie, in which Sarah Silverman gets punched in the face. (WARNING: Very rude and very accurate language.)
