Rep. Doug Lamborn, Colorado Republican, has started gathering signatures in the House of Representatives to prevent the deportation of Mosab Hassan Yousef.
Currently a man without a country, the Department of Homeland Security is threatening the Christian convert, former spy for Israel and disowned son of jailed Hamas founder Sheikh Hassan Yousef with deportation.
Mosab, who wrote about his life’s saga and the evils of Hamas and Islam in his memoir “Son of Hamas,” announced on the “SONOFHAMAS” blog, “Now I am Homeland Security File # A 088 271 051…..and must be deported.” He announced that “On June 30, at 8 a.m., I have a hearing before Immigration Judge Rico J. Bartolomei at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration Court in San Diego.”
Having grown up in the heart of a terrorist organization, Mosab converted to Christianity and spent a decade spying on his father’s group — foiling myriad terrorist attacks and enabling the arrest of a number of high-ranking terrorist leaders.
What he’s said in “Son of Hamas” and in the press have far from endeared him to the followers of his former faith. Mosab spoke to Israeli newspaper Haaretz in February, saying, “Hamas cannot make peace with the Israelis. That is against what their God tells them,” He said. “Palestinians! They do not hesitate to massacre people in a mosque or to throw people from the 15th or 17th floor of a building, as they did during the coup in Gaza. The Israelis would never do such things. I tell you with certainty that the Israelis care about the Palestinians far more than the Hamas or Fatah leadership does.”
In March, Mosab explained the fallacy of the “moderate Muslim” to Sean Hannity. “The highest and most holy duty you can do for the God of Islam is jihad,” he said. “Their God is a terrorist and ignorant.”
If he is deported, Mosab, whose family has renounced him, would find himself back in the West Bank where the former subjects of his espionage will likely have gruesome plans for his return. Representative Lamborn, however, is working to nip that possibility in the bud with a letter addressed to the Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano expressing support for Mosab.
Lamborn’s office told The Daily Caller that the congressman plans to present the letter to Napolitano sometime this week, before Mosab’s Wednesday hearing.
So far fifteen other representatives have signed Lamborn’s letter: Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Cynthia Lummis, Rep. Bill Posey, Rep. Kenny Marchant, Rep. Rob Bishop, Rep. John Kline, Rep. John Shadegg, Rep. Aaron Schock, Rep. Mike Pence, Rep. Frank Wolf, Rep. Joe Pitts, Rep. Michele Bachmann, Rep. Marsha Blackburn, Rep. Bill Shuster, and Rep. Lynn Jenkins.

Dear Madam Secretary,
We are troubled by what we understand to be the position of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) concerning the immigration status of Mr. Mosab Hassan Yousef. It is incumbent on DHS to take into account all the evidence.
Mr. Yousef is currently scheduled for a U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review hearing on June 30, 2010, which is expected to determine his request for asylum in the United States. To the extent that DHS officials or attorneys will be involved in this hearing or future hearings, we ask that full consideration be given to Mr. Yousef’s views and conduct in recent years, particularly his cooperation with Shin Bet at significant risk to his own safety and life.
We understand that Mr. Yousef’s Shin Bet handler will attest to Mr. Yousef’s courageous work to prevent acts of terror, as well as attest that Mr. Yousef harbors no loyalty to or affiliation with a foreign terrorist organization.
Additionally, Mr. Yousef’s conversion to Christianity and work with Israeli intelligence services would place Mr. Yousef in grave danger should he be forced to return to the Middle East. These important conditions must also be taken into consideration as Mr. Yousef’s immigration status is adjudicated.
