RNC fails to report $7 m in debt to FEC

The Republican National Committee failed to report more than $7 million in debt to the Federal Election Commission in recent months – a move that made its bottom line appear healthier than it is heading into the midterm elections and that also raises the prospect of a hefty fine.

In a memo to RNC budget committee members, RNC Treasurer Randy Pullen on Tuesday accused Chairman Michael S. Steele and his chief of staff, Michael Leavitt, of trying to conceal the information from him by ordering staff not to communicate with the treasurer – a charge RNC officials deny.

Mr. Pullen told the members that he had discovered $3.3 million in debt from April and $3.8 million from May, which he said had led him to file erroneous reports with the FEC. He amended the FEC filings Tuesday.

Campaign-finance analysts said that simply misreporting fundraising numbers to the FEC can lead to millions of dollars in fines and that criminal charges can be levied if the actions are suspected to be intentional.

I can’t say it enough, Michael Steel needs to step down. He has not shown any
leadership to the Republican party, and he just reacts but never is proactive
in his approach. I personally think this would be a great job for Sarah Palin.
She has shown she can pick the right horse on occasion, she know how to get attention, and I know she could do a fantastic job as Chairperson for the Republican Party. She may even be able to shake some sense into them and I
know she would endorse a conservative platform similar to the Tea Party which
would go along way to bringing back many Independents who separated from the party when they became democratic light. Go Sarah! No yet ready for a Presidential run but this job is just right.

Why is Steele still here? I am changing my voter registration to independent right after the primaries. The GOP is an embarrassment. Zero, zilch, nada leadership! No plan of action, no strategy, no viable candidates!! What is Steele’s job function? Whatever it is, he isn’t doing it!

If you want to vote in primaries in my state you have to pick a party. I would check that first. Steele should be gone today(if this stuff is true) and get someone to just do the job. I could not believe he had a meeting in Hawaii instead of Vegas among many other things that make him the story. That is the problem for me is that he somehow becomes the story instead of Dem failure.
I think he thinks he is leading the party instead of just running a campaign clearinghouse. Whatever , I used to like the guy on talk shows , but like Obama his mouth has written checks his actions can’t cash or something like that.

Don’t you have some little girls pigtails you could pull instead of bothering grownups?

You are taking a planted story in the Washington Times at face value? This was blatantly political, because Pullen wants Steele’s job.
