SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown has begun answering the $100 million campaign of Republican rival Meg Whitman by announcing his first TV ad of the general election.
The state attorney general released the ad Monday on his website at the same time he was participating in a union-sponsored Labor Day breakfast in Los Angeles.
His campaign manager, Steve Glazer, says it will begin airing Tuesday in all major media markets throughout California.
Brown has kept a light campaign schedule over the summer, making some Democrats nervous that he would not be able to compete effectively with Whitman, a billionaire.
His TV ad promotes his accomplishments as governor with a look to the future. Brown concludes by saying he will not raise taxes “without voter approval.”
