I’m not a Tea Partier. I’m not a Republican. But, that doesn’t mean this post has anything to do with a Christine O’Donnell witch-hunt, no pun intended. We’re all entitled to our opinions and political party allegiances. I don’t judge people with whom I disagree on values or political positions; however, if you can’t back up your opinions with facts, expect an open season for ridicule.

Christine O’Donnell has more wack opinions than “my friend” has ex-boyfriends.

Here are a few:

She wants to outlaw masturbation. According to documents reviewed (and reported) by Lying Dog News, Ms. O’Donnell said, “Genital self-stimulation is not only ungodly, it’s unproductive. Selfishness caused the Great Recession and if we are to turn our economy around we’ve got to stop people playing with themselves.” Lying Dog uncovered her stellar idea that, “People ‘outed’ for masturbating would be identified on a “wall of shame” website, along with any photos or video the snitches are able to acquire. Lying In order to raise money for ‘don’t touch, don’t swell,’ people would have to pay to view these images (either a one-time fee or a monthly subscription).”Just wondering, Ms. O’Donnell, would the website’s fee go to the milk and cookies fund for your tea parties? She once said, “The Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery, so you can’t masturbate without lust.” Wow, who knew Ms. O’Donnell was a Biblical scholar?

She believes the man is superior in a marriage: In 1998, Ms. O’Donnell supported language in the Southern Baptists’ “statement of beliefs” that a wife should “submit herself graciously” to her husband. Two days later, she told CNN, “OK, this is not about merely a Baptist doctrine. This is a biblical doctrine. And the passage from the Bible the Baptist article is taken from talks about a submissive family. And yet, what the media seems to be reacting to is the word ‘submit’ in the wives. But yet, even in, Mary, your introduction, you ignored or you left out where it says they graciously submit to a servant leader. And that is God’s design for the family. It is not about dominating and it is not about being a slave to your husband.”

So, according to Ms. O’Donnell, if you are a woman and the sole breadwinner in your family because your husband lost his job or is on disability, you still have a lesser role than your husband. Never mind that example, maybe you are a stay-at-home mother because you would rather spend your time raising your children than working. Your role in your marriage is less than your husband’s.

She thinks witches are questionable creatures: In 1999, when Ms. O’Donnell was a guest on Bill Maher’s “Politically Incorrect” show, she said, “I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven. I hung around people who were doing these things. I’m not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do. One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar and I didn’t know it. I mean, there was a little blood there and stuff like that. We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”

So, is this is kinda sorta like when President Clinton said he smoked pot but didn’t inhale?

Ms. O’Donnell was quick to dismiss her previous dilly-dallying date. Last Sunday, she said, “How many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school?” Questionable? Oh, I get it now: she was the victim of the environment. Why didn’t she just say, “Yes, I dated a guy (or girl) who was a witch and he (or she) just wasn’t for me?” That would have been an appropriate answer; but, instead, Ms. O’Donnell felt the need to bash an entire group of non-Christians.

She believes homosexuals have an identity disorder: In 2006, Ms. O’Donnell told the Wilmington News Journal, “People are created in God’s image. Homosexuality is an identity adopted through societal factors. It’s an identity disorder.”

I’d be more than happy to accept Ms. O’Donnell’s “identity disorder” assertion as the absolute truth if she can give me some evidence.

Actually, I’m surprised the Proposition 8 defenders didn’t use Ms. O’Donnell’s empirical evidence during the trial earlier this year. Remember, Prop 8 proponents’ star witness, David Blankenhorn? He said, “I believe homophobia is a real presence in our society. We would be more American on the day we permit same-sex marriage than the day before.” Amanda Beck of Berkeley Law wrote, “On the stand, he deplored homophobia but, after ‘wrestling with the evidence,’ could not say that discrimination had caused societies to limit marriage to opposite-sex couples. If evidence of this exists, Blankenhorn said, ‘I want to know it. But I’m telling you that I have looked for it, and I can’t find it.'”

If only Mr. Blankenhorn had Ms. O’Donnell’s evidence, Judge Walker would have most certainly found Proposition 8, the anti-gay marriage law, totally constitutional!

Democrats and Republicans alike must understand the constantly-growing power of the Tea Party; however, the Partiers’ candidates must build a stronger platform than Christian-only, anti-masturbation and anti-gay. Each candidate is entitled to a loony position, or maybe two; however, Ms. O’Donnell should have tapped out long ago.
