Radical Islam is a real threat

In his October 5th article entitled “Gingrich’s 527 Promotes itself and Newt – But Not GOP Candidates,” Talking Points Memo “reporter” Ryan J. Reilly refers to our film “America at Risk” when he states, “…Gingrich has called for a federal ban on Sharia law, and Gingrich’s production company teamed with Citizens United to produce a documentary on the supposed threat of Islam in America.” Mr. Reilly needs to get his head out of the sand. Either he has been under a rock for the past thirty years or he has taken the Michael Moore view that “there is no terrorist threat.” Radical Islam is not a “supposed threat,” it is a real threat. Nearly 3,000 people were murdered over nine years ago because of radical Islam.

It is ironic that on the same day that this article was posted, Faisal Shahzad, an American citizen, was sentenced to a life term for his attempted bombing of Times Square back in May. If Shahzad was a capable bomber, it is estimated over 100 people would have been murdered. I am wondering if Mr. Reilly believed what New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in the immediate aftermath of the attempted bombing, when he speculated that the perpetrator was “…somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something.” Shahzad, in his own words, said, “If I’m given 1,000 lives I will sacrifice them all for the life of Allah,” and later “We do not accept your democracy or your freedom because we already have Sharia law and freedom,” during his sentencing. When asked by the judge about the oath he took to become an American citizen, Shahzad said, “I did swear, but I did not mean it.”

People can disagree about politics, but the severity of the radical Islamic threat to America and the world cannot be ignored. At this very moment Europe is bracing for possible Mumbai-style attacks, and America has to be constantly vigilant of the terrorist threat. It is “reporters” like Mr. Reilly and the “blame America first” crowd that puts America’s security at risk.
