Welcome to campaign silly season

You know the wheels are coming off the Democrat Party when a Member of Congress calls for the impeachment of Chief Justice John Roberts because of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.  Last week, Democrat Congressman Peter DeFazio from Oregon told the always fair and balanced Huffington Post:

“I mean, the Supreme Court has done a tremendous disservice to the United States of America.  They have done more to undermine our democracy with their Citizens United decision than all of the Republican operatives in the world in this campaign.  They’ve opened the floodgates, and personally, I’m investigating articles of impeachment against Justice Roberts for perjuring during his Senate hearings, where he said he wouldn’t be a judicial activist, and he wouldn’t overturn precedents.”

We are truly entering the silly season of campaigns.  DeFazio is facing a tough challenge this year and he is looking for somebody to blame.  However, to say you are looking at drawing up articles of impeachment against the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for no legitimate reason is over the line.  I guess Congressman DeFazio is following President Obama’s example of going after the Supreme Court without any class.

It is dangerous when one branch of government singles out another for such blatant and selfish political purposes.  Our government is based on three co-equal branches.  To argue that Chief Justice Roberts perjured himself in his confirmation hearing is merely a hysterical charge by someone fearful of not getting reelected.  When will DeFazio start focusing on something worthwhile, like Oregon’s sky-high 10.6 percent unemployment rate?

I wonder if Congressman DeFazio would want to impeach Justice Sonya Sotomayor because she blatantly lied about her Second Amendment stance when she said in her confirmation hearing, “I understand the individual right fully that the Supreme Court recognized in Heller.” And further, “I understand how important the right to bear arms is to many, many Americans.” Fast-forward to Sotomayor joining the dissent in McDonald v. Chicago which said, “In sum, the Framers did not write the Second Amendment in order to protect a private right of armed self defense.”

There it is, folks, in black and white — she obviously perjured herself in her confirmation hearing! I guess if Republicans take over the House next week, their first order of business must be to impeach Sonya Sotomayor.

Maybe Congressman DeFazio should draw up articles of impeachment against President Obama, too, because he claimed the unemployment rate would not go over 8 percent if the stimulus was passed.  The unemployment rate currently stands at a stagnant 9.6 percent and America’s national debt is over $13 trillion.

In all seriousness, liberals always like to blame somebody else for their problems because they cannot face up to the fact that it is their own policies the American people are rejecting. In fact, Gallup just released polls showing Republicans winning on a generic ballot and President Obama with a disapproval rating of 48 percent.

Congressman DeFazio’s anti-free speech rhetoric should frighten his constituents, and the country.  However, the American people will prove these scare tactics won’t work because House Democrats are on the way to being the minority party once again.
