P.J. O’Rourke: ‘There are bad guys out there and I wish there was something else we could do besides kill them’

To which he adds, in fine O’Rourkian fashion: “And if I get any bright ideas, I’ll call the Pentagon.”

That’s just one of the great quotes from his megamammoth interview with our own Mike Riggs. It’s a great read. There’s some adult language, but nothing you can’t handle. My favorite part is O’Rourke’s opinion of today’s Rolling Stone magazine. (SPOILER: It’s the same as yours and mine.) He just seems like a nice, unpretentious guy who happens to know more than you about pretty much everything but isn’t a jerk about it, and can explain it in a way that makes you laugh.

He’s promoting his new book, Don’t Vote It Just Encourages the Bastards, but I get the feeling you’ll enjoy it even if you voted last Tuesday to discourage the other bastards. BTW, so far so good!

P.S. The title of Riggs’ interview is a play on O’Rourke’s classic ’70s essay, “How to Drive Fast on Drugs While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed and Not Spill Your Drink.” It pretty much explains libertarianism.
