Web censorship bill sails through Senate committee

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would give the Attorney General the right to shut down websites with a court order if copyright infringement is deemed “central to the activity” of the site — regardless if the website has actually committed a crime. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) is among the most draconian laws ever considered to combat digital piracy, and contains what some have called the “nuclear option,” which would essentially allow the Attorney General to turn suspected websites “off.”

COICA is the latest effort by Hollywood, the recording industry and the big media companies to stem the tidal wave of internet file sharing that has upended those industries and, they claim, cost them tens of billions of dollars over the last decade.

Can someone say, Totalitarian Facist Dictator Regime and Congress.. that includes all the Senators in the Judiciary Committee, that allowed this Tyrannical Oppressive, “Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act” (COICA) , which is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment / of American’s Rights of Free Speech, and Freedom of the Press, along with the Communications Networks and Outlets, that provide, transmit, and relay the Public and Private Information, to the American Public. Only in an National Emergency, should such a procedure be allowed, not just because Obama and Holder, do not like Fox News, or someone downloaded a song or movie, without paying for it. That is Outrageous.!!!
This is why we, the American People, must FIRE everyone of those Senators, who voted to allow this
The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA), which is a blatant act of Communication Oppression and Suppression, by the AG, and we especially FIRE, and or Impeach Obama, and thus AG Holder, when Obama goes right out the White House door, and back into the streets, where he came from, forever.!!!

It’s just the Thug in Chief and his posse paying back their toadies in Hollywood and taking control of another segment of our lives at the same time. Even if it passes in this mad-duck session of Congress, it won’t make it through the courts.

Perhaps it’s time for a general boycott of the out of control recording industry.
China and Russia pirate them and they come after Americans bc they are afraid of the commies…and our out of control GOVT helps them do it!

looks like the democrats are declaring war on the right. Thought we had won are freedom from King George and pope. Once the religious the hunted and weary, chasing the promise of freedom and hope, came to this country to a new vision, far from the reaches of kingdom and hope. Can any body scream Russia 1917, Germany 1932.

Might of made it out of the Judiciary Committee..but it will have a long way to go to get out of the full Senate, which they had damned well vote NO on.

Do you get the feeling that the Obama administration and the Democrats have a weekly screening of Orwell’s “1984″ so they can review ideas and procedures?

    • keviepee

It’s not all Dems, and I’d imagine none of the bill’s proponents have even seen a film adaptation of 1984, much less read it. If this goes all the way, it will almost certainly be abused before the ink dries on the signature.
