It took the former governor of Alaska a few shots, but she finally took the reindeer down.

On TLC’s “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” Sunday night, the former governor of Alaska went camping and hunting with her dad, Chuck Heath. After spotting a caribou in a remote Alaska hunting land, Palin missed the animal by shooting too high several times.

But with daddy’s help, and a fresh rifle, she finally hit the caribou.

“When you’re shooting, everything seems to be happening very, very quickly,”  Palin said afterward. “Instructions flying at you. You’re shooting and the gun’s kicking. But when you see you’ve have a successful hit, it’s a great feeling of accomplishment.”

She and her dad skinned and gutted the caribou in the field.

Because Palin’s rifle missed the caribou so many times, she later claimed in the show that there was something wrong with her dad’s gun. “I’m gonna bet you five dollars that your scope was off,” teased Palin. “I kept missing that caribou, even though it was squarely in my sights.”

After a couple practice shots with the suspect gun, Heath laughed and admitted, “I owe Sarah five dollars.” The scope had indeed been off.

At the end of the day, Palin’s dad was proud of her hunting skills.

“When Sarah shot that caribou, I immediately thought, ‘that’s my girl, that’s the girl I raised, I’m glad I raised her that way,’” Heath said.
