WikiLeaks has issued a cry for help.

As calls to shut down the site ramp up and in the wake of Amazon.com’s decision to drop the site from its servers, WikiLeaks is asking for people to put up “censorship resistant mirrors” of the website.

“Wikileaks is currently under heavy attack,” explains a page on the WikiLeaks site, which was linked to by a WikiLeaks tweet on Sunday afternoon.

“In order to make it impossible to ever fully remove Wikileaks from the Internet, you will find below a list of mirrors of Wikileaks website and CableGate pages.”

A mirror is an identical copy of the site. Multiple copies would make it more difficult to eliminate access to the content of the WikiLeak site.

At the moment, there is no list of mirrors posted. WikiLeaks says it will post the list when there are at least 50 such sites. It remains to be seen how many people will agree to be complicit in WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s project.
