The National Republican Congressional Committee has picked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to keynote its annual fundraising dinner on March 30, the group announced Friday.

“Governor Christie has become a highly regarded Republican since winning his gubernatorial race in 2009, and we are excited that he will be joining us in March,” said NRCC Chairman Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas. The NRCC, a political action committee that raises money to elect Republicans to the House, praised Christie for “taking on big union bosses and working tirelessly to reduce budget deficits in New Jersey without raising taxes.”

Christie has made a national name for himself in his first year as governor for what some have called a “confrontational” style of governing and for offering surprisingly blunt answers to questions from reporters and critics.

He has rejected speculation that he will run against President Obama in 2012.
