Radio host Rush Limbaugh responded Friday to a controversy involving a Tucson billboard that called him a “straight shooter” and featured decorative bullet holes. The billboard has been removed by Clear Channel.

Limbaugh said on his radio show that he hadn’t known that there was a billboard promoting his show in Tucson until Thursday.

He believes the billboard was intended to humorously depict faux vandalism. “I thought whoever put the billboard up wanted to make it look like people who didn’t like me were shooting at the billboard,” said Limbaugh, “meaning angry liberals.”

Limbaugh said that in the past he has approved similar billboards that appeared to have been vandalized, citing a Sacramento advertising campaign with illustrated tomatoes splats.
