Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is under investigation for allegedly throwing wild late night sex parties with underage women, reports the Daily Mail.

Dental hygienist-turned-Italian politician Nicole Minetti apparently recruited the girls. According to prosecutors, one former police officer was overheard describing one of the parties on a tapped phone line. “Minetti was there with her chest out kissing Berlusconi continuously,” the officer said. “It was a real whorehouse. All the girls were given rings and necklaces.’”

Prosecutors say the girls included Karima El Mahroug, a 17-year-old belly dancer, who was given gifts in exchange for sex with Berlusconi. In one intercepted phone conversation, El Mahroug can be heard telling a friend “I told Silvio I wanted five million Euro for all this… he told me he would pay me all I wanted, in gold, but that I should just keeping making things up and pretend I’m mad but not reveal anything and stay quiet.”

El Mahroug was arrested for theft last year and then freed by authorities after they received a phone call from Berlusconi. The Prime Minister is said to have claimed that El Mahroug was the grand daughter of Egypt’s president and that her arrest risked straining diplomatic relations. According to The Wall Street Journal, Berlusconi says he only pushed for the young woman’s release because he is a man “of the heart.”

At the parties, women would dress up in various uniforms and perform sex shows for Berlusconi and his friends. Prosecutors said that some of the women would then wind up spending the night with the Italian premier. Karima Keyek, another 17 year-old belly dancer, made international headlines last year when she said that Berlusconi called the events “bunga bunga” parties and that they were based on similar events held by Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi.

Berlusconi said prosecutors were investigating his legendary parties because they had never been invited and were “jealous.”
