Fart jokes led to the death of one person and the stabbing of three at a weekend party, the Hartford Courant reported Tuesday.

Marc Higgins’ party spirit soured after friends began poking fun at him for passing gas. Higgins, 21, told police the teasing infuriated him so much that he left the party and returned with three knives. Court documents say a “very drunk” Higgins then began stabbing people at random.

According to the report, 21-year-old Matthew Walton of Bristol, Conn., died from his stab wounds. Three other stabbing victims were taken to Bristol Hospital and later released. Higgins told police that Walton had been a friend.

Higgins also fought with party-goer Stacy Buccheri, who chastised him for passing gas, police said. Buccheri slapped him and Higgins smashed a beer bottle just before he deserted the party.

Police said Higgins fled the scene but turned himself in later. Higgins faces charges of murder among others and is being held on $2 million bail in Bristol.
