Arizona Republican Rep. Jeff Flake didn’t rule out the option of running for the open Senate seat that will be left vacant by Sen. Jon Kyl, who announced his retirement this afternoon.

The six-term member of Congress would not affirm that he will run, but said he will announce his choice “soon enough.”

“Today is Kyl’s day, I don’t want to distract from that,” he told The Daily Caller, who caught up with him outside the Capitol building Thursday afternoon. “But I’ll announce my intentions soon enough.”

The tight-lipped congressman started to say more, but stopped, smiled and repeated, “Today is Kyl’s day.”

Flake is expected to announce whether he will run in the next few days and a Republican aide familiar with the situation told the Daily Caller that “there is a strong likelihood that he will run for the seat.”

Kyl, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, is the fifth member to announce their retirement in 2012. Kyl has served in the Senate since 1995.
