Obama Must Stop Saying “Must”!

Obama’s maddening use of the “must” locution (e.g., “this violence must stop”) when discussing what Libya’s government “needs to” do comes back and haunts him now, no?  If something “must” happen but it ain’t happening, and you are President of the United States, well … P.S.: As TNR‘s Wieseltier notes, Obama talks as if he’s writing an editorial in the New York Times. I suppose if you read enough of those (and Obama’s clearly read too many) the language seeps into your brain.  … P.P.S.: The scariest possibility is that Obama thinks this posture–feckless lecturing–makes him look good even if Gaddafi prevails.  …
