Depending on your perspective this could be good or it could be bad – if you’re trying to gauge the character of a potential 2012 Republican presidential nominee.

On Monday’s “Fox & Friends” on the Fox News Channel, real estate titan Donald Trump, someone who has been toying with the idea of a presidential run, explained a business transaction he made with Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi – which he overcharged the African dictator.

“By the way, I could tell you something else – I dealt with Gaddafi,” Trump said. “[I] rented him a piece of land. He paid me more for one night than the land was worth for two years, and then I didn’t let him use the land. That’s what we should be doing. I don’t want to use the word ‘screwed’, but I screwed him. That’s what we should be doing.”

And as it turned out, he didn’t let Gaddafi have what he paid for.

“I rented him a piece of land in Bedford, N.Y.,” he continued. “He paid me a fortune and then I didn’t let him use the land.”

“Fox & Friends” co-host Alisyn Camerota asked him why. Trump said he didn’t want to and that is the way people should think in this country.

“Because I didn’t want to,” he said. “That should be the thinking of this country, not the kind of thinking we have right now. It’s ridiculous. Just a little controversy for your show.”
