Fmr. New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson will make a “major announcement” on April 21st about whether he plans to run for president in 2012, his political action committee announced Tuesday.

A source close to Johnson’s confirmed to Fox News that he will announce the launch of his presidential campaign, skipping the exploratory committee process.

Johnson isn’t a typical Republican. He favors drug decriminalization, supports gay marriage and opposes the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003.

The Daily Caller profiled Johnson in November.
