Residents of Abbottabad, Pakistan who have no tie to the late al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden might want to consider moving, as Google Maps users have ripped the village in online reviews since the terrorist’s Sunday death.
As the Huffington Post reported on Monday, Internet users have given the location poor ratings on Google Maps since Sunday’s announcement that bin Laden hid there for the rest of his life. The reviews are mostly negative, but all appear to be fake.
“Free HBO, but ‘death to America!’ chants were getting old. Better options nearby,” wrote Steve Jenkins, who awarded the secret house a one star out of five.
“Disappointed in the service,” another reviewer wrote. “The place reeked of burning garbage.”
One user, who jokingly alluded to bin Laden, wrote of the compound, “Shotty security, and lacked internet, electricity, and running water. A reasonable stay for 8-10 years though.”
Some users were short and punchy with comments like, “No privacy. Wouldn’t come back,” whereas others provided more complex, detailed reviews on the site.
“Located in cozy, quiet neighborhood,” read a five star review. “Interrupted only occasionally by machine gun fire. Lacking in amenities, but an up and coming area. Handyman special. One satellite phone available with smoking bullet hole for [communication] back home. CIA helicopters offering complimentary air lift service for corpses. Great property to get away from it all. Must See!”
As the Atlantic noted, the area was labeled as an “amusement park” by one user.
