UPDATED: White House asked California paper to take out unflattering remark about first lady

Update: response from FLOTUS office posted below

A small weekly paper in California claims that a White House official asked it to remove a sentence from a “benign” feature about Marine One because it reflected poorly on first lady Michelle Obama.

In an email to The Daily Caller, Gina Channell-Allen, president of the Pleasanton Weekly in Pleasanton, California, said that her paper “received a call from the White House asking us to take out part of the story because it reflected poorly on the First Lady.”

The story in question was a soft feature about Marine One titled, “Inside Marine One, President Obama’s helicopter,” that ran in the paper on April 20. Pleasanton staffer Amory Gutierrez “didn’t get to ride in ‘Marine One,’” she wrote in her story, “but I did get the VIP tour and took photographs of the otherwise unseen aircraft.”

She also wrote a sentence that the White House thought made FLOTUS look snooty.

“Basically the reporter said that the First Lady didn’t speak to the pilots but acknowledged them by making eye contact,” Allen wrote in her email.

UPDATE: Katie McCormick Lelyveld, FLOTUS’ press secretary, wrote the following in an email: “Our office has never interacted with the Pleasanton paper, and not knowing the story existed, we never asked for such a line to be removed.”

Allen says she “complied” with the White House’s request “because it was not worth making a fuss over.”

She added, “I thought it was interesting, though, that the [White House] was concerned enough about image to contact a little weekly paper in Pleasanton.”

The White House communications office did not return requests for comment.

Allen said she emailed TheDC after reading about the San Francisco Chronicle’s recent spat with the White House communications office.

The White House also asked the Daily Rash to remove the story about Obama chastising Michelle over her unsightly panty lines! http://www.thedailyrash.com/?p=4891 The Daily Rash refused.

Not to print anything unflattering to the FLOTUS.

Not release anything that will destroy the image of POTUS.

What else is new. Transparency anyone?

Oh, won’t also release the photos of Bin Laden?

AND don’t forget the recent dispute with the San Francisco Chronicle, who said the WH was not being ‘truthful’ when they denied threatening them if they published the banishment of one of their reporters. This WH most certainly is NOT transparent. They will do ANYTHING to try to control their image.

wow a secretary from the office of the first lady claims they did nothing, and knew nothing about this,

like they are the only people who work in the white house, yah right.

So much for freedom of the press. Since when does the WH tell newspapers what not to print. They printed the truth and sometimes faced with the truth is uncomfortable. A measure of a person’s character is how they treat people who can do nothing for them. Really telling how people treat those in positions they deem much lower on the social scale. The Clintons weren’t nice to the ‘help’ either.

since when does the WH tell the media what to say.

apparently you have not been paying attention.

do you know who Anita Dunn is, she was the WH director of commuications, she had worked with Obama from the very beginning of his campaign.

Beck ousted her, when he discovered a tape, where she told that every interview, and every piece of press coverage, regarding Obama goes through them, they wrote/write what could be printed, they wrote/write what questions were allowed to be asked, they controled/control it all.

she also gave a speech to high school students telling them her favorite person to quote from was mao TS-tung, as it turns out she worshiped him.

so of course Obama had to get rid of her, well from her public position that is, as she still advises him. as does the mao TSE-tung loving Marxist Van Jones, and more than likely Wright, and others who he had to appear to get rid of.

so since when has the WH controled the media, since Jan, 20, 2009

and when will it end, January 1013

“when will it end, January 1013″

        AHA! You’re a Crusader!

Since when ? Since we have, for all intents and purposes, a state controlled media. The voters wanted hoax and chains…here it is !

      • 8second.ride

        “hoax and chains”

That’s the first time I’ve seen that phrase. I like it. Consider it borrowed.

        • ladylove

I like hype and chains myself, they both work equally well

  • virginiagentleman

Censoring the press by the White House? What will they think of next?!

  • jeronimodan

She does come across, as being very snooty.

That was very nice of you to remove the comment. Also it was very WEAK of you to cave into the WH bums. Who cares what flotus looks like? She really is a snooty snob as is potus. They are the perfect pair……..of losers. They have no authority to order anything removed from the media as I would have hoped you have known and made a stand on, but I guess you are like all the rest who fawn all over this clown and his band of monkeys.
