“Valentine’s Day” star Jessica Alba is scheduled to appear on Capitol Hill next week to urge Congress to pass the Safe Chemicals Act, according to Politico.

A spokesperson for the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition, Alba will be in the nation’s capital on May 24 and 25 to meet with politicians and ask them to push for the legislation to “increase the safety of chemicals used in consumer products, increase public access to health and safety information, and protect vulnerable populations like pregnant women and children.” The actress, who often rates high in desirability and sex appeal rankings, will hold a press conference on the first day of her trip.

“Alba, a mother of one with a second child on the way, first learned four years ago about toxic plastics used to make baby bottles, brain toxins in children’s toys, carcinogens in cleaning products, hormone-disrupting chemicals and many other dangerous poisons that children are exposed to on a regular basis,” Alba said in a press release.

This isn’t Alba’s first dip into political activism. In 2009, the California native reportedly vandalized electrical boxes, a bridge and a billboard in an effort to spread awareness on saving great white sharks. Alba later released a statement of apology to People magazine, “I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment…I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign.”
