Former Senator Rick Santorum will officially announce a bid for the White House the week of June 5, an aide confirmed to The Daily Caller.

Santorum would become the fifth person to officially announce his candidacy, following closely on the heels of Tim Pawlenty’s announcement on Monday, and Herman Cain’s announcement this weekend. Other candidates who have officially announced include Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich.

Santorum will also participate in the first New Hampshire Republican debate on June 13, the aide confirmed. CNN first reported that Santorum would attend the debate.

The former Senator is considered something of a long shot for the nomination, but has been campaigning aggressively in New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina. To date he has traveled to the first-in-the-nation caucus state 15 times, to New Hampshire 15 times, and South Carolina 14 times.
