Salmonella cases are on the rise in the United States.

Since 2006, cases of salmonella have increased by 10 percent, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention annual report.

NPR reported that more than 3,000 Americans get salmonella every day, totaling over a million cases per year.

Out of all food borne illnesses, salmonella causes the most deaths and hospitalizations per year.

CBS News reported that there were over 19,000 cases of food poisoning in the United States in 2010.
