The head of the Georgia Christian Coalition says Herman Cain should run for governor of Georgia in 2014 if he doesn’t make it to the White House next year.

“We are for Cain in the presidential primary also, but he’s one of six good candidates,” said Jerry Luquire, who leads the Georgia Christian Coalition. “The possibility of him become the presidential candidate is at best one in six.”

Luquire made the comments this week on WGAU radio, saying Cain should challenge incumbent and fellow Tea Party favorite Republican Nathan Deal.

Cain spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael told The Daily Caller that the former CEO of Godfathers Pizza is only thinking about the 2012 presidential race.

“Although Mr. Cain is certainly flattered by the efforts of his fellow Georgians to encourage him to seek the GOP nomination for governor, he is focused entirely on winning the Republican nomination, and ultimately, the presidency,” she said. “We hope we can count on this same support in the Georgia presidential primary in the months ahead.”

Another influential conservative voice says Cain should consider challenging Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

“I think if he doesn’t go all the way in 2012, Herman needs to primary Saxby Chambliss, not Nathan Deal,” said Erick Erickson, who runs the website RedState and lives in Georgia.
