DERRY, N.H. — Adults aren’t the only ones worried about whether taxes are going up.

At a meet and greet here, a young girl asked former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty if President Obama was going to raise taxes on the money she makes babysitting.

“The answer is assuredly yes,” Pawlenty joked to the laughter of the crowd at the Halligan Tavern. “… At the rate at which he’s going, he’ll probably tax everything, so be very afraid.”

Pawlenty, who is running as a Republican for president, then said: “I’m just teasing … I don’t think President Obama will raise taxes on babysitting, but he’s raising taxes on a lot of stuff.”

Pawlenty will join the other Republicans running for president Monday at a debate at St. Anselm College in Manchester.
