A Syrian pro-democracy activist based in Washington D.C. slammed Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich for his comments praising Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad on Syrian television. Kucinich was in Syria earlier this week on a “fact finding” trip.

“Kucinich says Bashar is listening [to the protesters’ demands],” said Ammar Abdulhamid, who maintains the blog Syrian Revolution Digest, in an email to The Daily Caller. (Exclusive: Kucinich praises Syrian dictator on state television)

“If he truly were, he would have been in London right now enjoying retirement with his wife and kids instead of supervising the continuing crackdown against protesters, a crackdown that claimed 15 more lives even as Mr. Kucinich was giving this interview,” he wrote. “It seems neither man is really listening except to the voices in their own heads.”

Since Syrians began staging protests against the Assad regime earlier this year, over 1,300 protesters have reportedly been killed by the regime and many more injured. In April, President Obama called the Syrian government’s use of violence against its people “outrageous.”
